Cardio Exercises: Which Ones Burn Body Fat Faster?

Have you ever wondered which cardio exercises are best for burning off extra body fat? Is low intensity exercise, like walking, better than a high intensity workout, like running?

When scientists first reported that during intensive exercises, our bodies burn glycogen, which is a form of carbohydrates stored in our liver and muscles so that we will have the necessary energy to complete our workout while during low intensive exercises, our bodies burn body fat, everyone suddenly changed their exercise workout routines to perform low intensity exercises instead.

But there’s more to that…

The scientists are correct when they say that our bodies burn more body fat during low intensity exercises like walking or a leisurely swim. But these findings have to be juxtaposed against the reality that during a high intensity exercise like running, our bodies burn a lot more calories.

So that even if some of the calories burned are from glycogen, we will still burn many fat calories as well.

And when our store of glycogen is low, the carbohydrates from the meals we eat later gets converted into glycogen to fill up the store and will not be converted to body fat when left unused for energy.

High intensity cardio exercise also serve to raise our metabolism hours after the workout is performed. This means that our bodies will continue to burn body fat in the hours after we have finished our routine.

This effect of our metabolism being cranked up is almost non-existent in low intensity cardio or aerobic workouts. Thus, cumulatively, we burn up many many more calories during and after high intensity cardio exercises than lower intensity ones.

So what to do…

Try injecting high intensity exercises to your cardio workout by introducing some interval training. Walk briskly for five minutes, then jog for another five. Then, alternate brisk walking with short sprints for about a minute each. Do this for about 15 more minutes and then you are done.

Do this for regularly for about five days in a week and before long, you will be steadily losing unwanted body fat and weight healthily and naturally.

Our suggestions…

1. Running/walking outdoors is perfect for this type of cardio exercise, but if you feel safer working out at home, then buying a fitness treadmill should do the trick as you can switch speeds and even inclines for your interval exercise workout.

2. Combining exercise with a fat-burning diet will speed up the process of losing the fat. Finding a program that will combine the right workouts with nutritious eating is not all that hard — Truth About Abs was created specifically for this purpose and will guide you all the way to a fit body and a healthy lifestyle.

I was actually wondering about this. I have a set of friends who want me to go walking with them, while another group inviting me is composed of morning joggers. Intervals huh…
